There are many organizations in Northampton, that together, help make our neighborhood an enjoyable place to live. The terminology used in Northampton for these organizations and ‘who does what’ can be confusing. We hope the information provided here will provide residents with an understanding of the entities which govern the subdivision.
The Northampton MUD
A Municipal Utility District (MUD) is one of several types of special districts in Texas that function as independent, limited governments. The role of the Northampton MUD is to provide water and wastewater services for residents. In addition, the Northampton MUD maintains parks and trails, swimming pools, a workout facility, and tennis courts. MUDs rely on the County to provide police and road maintenance services and Emergency Service Districts (ESDs) for providing fire protection.
The MUD is governed by a five-member Board of Directors elected in May of even numbered years. Our district holds two meetings per month at the Northampton MUD Building. These meetings typically occur on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m., unless the date falls on a holiday. The first meeting of each month is largely dedicated to the operation of the District’s parks and recreation facilities. The second meeting of the month is the regular meeting, which involves all the District’s business, including, but not limited to, the tax assessor’s report, bookkeeper’s report, operator’s report, general manager’s report, and the attorney’s report.
Public comments are welcome at our meetings. When attending a meeting, you may sign in and fill out a comment card. The Board of Directors will address your concerns and invite comments from the public at the beginning of each meeting.
The Northampton Maintenance Fund
The Northampton Maintenance Fund (often called a Homeowner’s Association) is mandated to provide the following services for our subdivision: assess and collect an annual maintenance fee, enforce deed restrictions and oversee the architectural control committee, maintain neighborhood esplanades, employ twenty-four-hour constable patrol, provide mosquito spraying, and maintain entrance signs.

The Maintenance Fund is governed by a Board of Trustees which meets the third Thursday of each month at the MUD building at 7:00 pm. You may also visit the Northampton Maintenance Fund website at www.northamptonmaintenancefund.com.
Northampton Homeowners’ Association
Unlike many subdivisions, our HOA is a civic organization that sponsors neighborhood events and activities that enrich our neighborhood. These annual activities include: Valentine’s Soda Shop; Easter Egg Hunt; BBQ Cook-Off; Crawfish Boil; Fourth of July Parade & Car Show; Wine & Cheese Party; Chili Cook-Off; Breakfast with Santa.
The Northampton Homeowner’s Association is run entirely by volunteers and depends on your $1 per month voluntary contribution on you water bill. The HOA meets the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm a the Northcrest Activity Building (the pool house adjacent to the Northcrest pool). You may visit their website at www.nhoaevents.com.
